time to show tokyo to some visitors

Well have been really lucky to have some of Ace's family come visit us from Bonnie land! yay we get to show some peeps around our new city! Firslty we get to go to the cool restaurant which kill bill's one was fashioned after! very cool and soooo yummy! we all tried some soba noodles which are made onsite, and various yakkitori bits, and of course tried to pursuade our visitors that sake is noice! well kirin was at the ready too (luckily)! next stop roppongi hills and a view from the 60 something floor! wow tokyo is massive. an aquarium is also in this building so popped off there from some weird shows of fish and marine life... some of it totally looks like it from outofspace! and of course interactive fish viewing via a strange kaleidascope thingo? (see pics?!) and for the clubber in us all there were some jelly fish dancing around some lazers going off! next stop tk tower! very noice view again ... but what got me n ace was they had some braille signs at the top! i get it pc and all these days... just really want to know if it describes the view or tells you how to be safe up there? hahaha on the way down from the tower you get herded through some weird stuff... ripleys, an anime wax museum (so not) and a wax museum (so bad and scary) we said goodnight and made plans for the next night.... the lockup.... a theme restaurant (can you guess what it was?) so it was keith's (ace's cuz) "bday" and he and ace got handcuffed together and led into our cell for dinner! way cool! huge beer tubes, testtubes of cocktails, snap crackle n pop brain drinks and a gross jelly eyeball... after which the lights go out and well the convicts get out and we get scared #@$#less! fabo tho of course a night is not complete without karaoke so off to SHIDAX (ahhhhhhhhhhhh) and another good night had by all! good visit and so nice to show folks around and see some familiar faces! hope to see more loved ones soon! totally ace!!

I just want a giant slab of chocolate...

This happens very rarely but I want chocolate. Now. In my mouth. Like a 500g bar of Dairy Milk. I really don't want:
Pencil shaped crunchy things dipped in chocolate even if they are labelled "Men's chocolate" - that sounds even worse and now I have an image of how they might make them. Thanks.

Strawberry or banana or green tea flavoured (tainted) chocolate! Stealth-health bars of puffed rice wrapped in chocolate so that you can't just scrape the chocolate off neither.

Fifty teeny weeny little bits of chocolate individually wrapped in gold foil - too much reverse Origami and it's not nice next day when you give up and just eat them wrapper and all anyway.

An aero in a box that looks promising with the "double" designation but when picked up weighs about 10 grams and prodding the box confims my suspicion that they've only put the air bubbles and not the chocolate in the box. I just wanted a big solid slab of chocolate to stuff into my face!

Japan is a beautiful place but sometimes it's just so friggin hard... :-(

ROAD TRIP - Izu Peninsula

A few weeks ago we had an awesome long weekend roadtrip south of tokyo towards the beckoning beach! Yes i say, beach its been way too long! Well directions in hand and a little car armed with a sat nav off we ventured. Now 2 hours is what everybody says... sure sure, i think people block out the part of sitting in traffic and the horrid amount of cars on the road here, 2 hours as the crow flies. but anyway all good we headed out of tokyo and soon saw the lush hills and hit the ocean! totally awesome! we stayed in usami a quaint little town toward the top of the penninsula right on the sea. our accommodation, otsuka minshuku, was across the road from a dark sandy beach, or bay really as there were only tiny little rolling waves coming in which was awesome to float around in! so basically laid on the sand for two days, reading, sleeping (mostly ace passing out, noice) hooping in the sand, swimming in the cold but refreshing sea and generally relaaxxxing! seaside towns and villages in japan seem to pride themselves on their fresh seafood and boy the minshuku we stayed at sure kept that rep up. they specialise in puffa fish but we haven't been brave enough yet for that one so for dinner one night we had wonderful sashimi and sushi and some weird but yummy male fish roe (?yeah not sure about translation there!) all made by the owner. Ace always has to try new foods so he had some bright orange (unnatural) dried squid, which i tried and well, it was pretty fishy and sticky, this washed down by some shochu watching little fireworks on the windy beach was nice especially the exfoliating sand whipped onto our bodies and up our noses. Laying on the beach was wonderful and funny watching all the Japanese folk roll around and bury each other in the sand, and everyone, i mean everyone has a blow up ring to float around in too so it was like being a big kid again. but one thing for sure on your mind was the huge and many signs warning you to "be careful of tsunamis" up to 4.5 metres not sure what you were meant to do! lucky no tsunamis but We were always in the company of one or two really pretty butterflies and laughed at the girls navigating the beach and water in high heels! classic always keeping up appearances huh. On the vending machine hunt we found some with animae porn in them next to the coffee, didn't even know you could get magazines from a vm! the trip home was long but worth it as we got to head further south and lay on some white sandy beach at shimoda amongst all the umbrellas europe style. taking the skyline highway home, unfortunately we didn't see any drifting, was really pretty as its up in the high mountains and so lush with little views of the sea too. in typical japanese fashion nothing can be done the conservative way! and along the highway there was a corkscrew section to drive around with 3 or so circles of highway jutting (see pics!) from the hillside to take you up higher into the mountains which made you really dizzy and nearly hard to keep on! but great to see. wasabi! we found its home! roadtrip stop consisted of wasabi icecream suprisinglg nice and a wee shop devoted to everything wasabi! from tea to pasta to little creampuff cakes all made from wasabi. we got some pasta yet to try. navigating our first road trip in japan was great, at times a little hiccup as the signs are not in english and neither was our sort of useful sat nav, but oh well we got to the beach and back home in one piece. nothing like a swim and relax to get you happy and motivated. love izu will defo be going again!

My Hooping Journey and Gratitude Journal

I recently met some really cool folks in Tokyo through hooping and am learning some fun stuff with a hula hoop. Firstly about a month ago i went to a hoop beginners and beyond class and got to get in on some spinning action with the wonderful supportive and talented Deanne from Hooplovers. It has been years since i did any kind of hooping and thought that it would be a very fun and cool way of doing some exercise without thinking of being exercise as i hate it! Well now you could say i am pretty hooked. It's a great workout for not doing much it seems except have a laugh and learn new tricks. Starting on August 1 for summer we are doing this great thing called hoopboot camp - 30 days of exercise, meditation, eating well and generally feeling great. It consists of little daily thoughts and inspirations, vids on hooping tips and routines, and just general support and sharing on-line. www.hooplovers.ning.com At the beginning we started with some goals for the 30 day, here are mine "I am a newcomer to spinning and am loving it and here are my goals for the 30 day Hoop Boot Camp..... ! overall develop my self confidence and ultimately put together a little routine and hoop in front of people without blushing and running to hide, am way too shy ! love to learn, and be great at, about four new tricks ! hoop in the opposite direction with no problems and one new trick in that direction ! hoop everyday day, no exceptions, for 30 minutes minimum enjoying the feeling and movement and staying in the now ! ride my pushbike everywhere ! have jotted down my measurements and to shift 3-4cms ! weightloss - will be happy with anything as a kickstart but 5kgs ! decrease alcohol intake ! and mainly to just get better at my hooping and have a laugh and some fun good luck everybody jojo xx" As a part of this we are also doing a gratitude journal daily to help remember the good things in life, i thought i would keep mine on here also. i have been offline as our lovely computer kept saying no! its great to catch up and so some thoughts from a few days "today grateful that we are back online also grateful for having the computer off and being away from it meeting new people and practising my (small amount of) new language skills the warm breezes - i adore summer and the hot humidness it brings pushbiking in the rain to get our fruit n veg on sunday discovering new music with a stomping beat i love a new hoop which is heavier and makes me work harder for my new cookbook to learn about asian spices and cooking - chickpea curry for dinner... for weekend with my husband to hang out in tokyo so grateful for bootcamp thanks so much! xx" Now i just have to get Ace motivated and I can't wait to see how things go, if i stick to my goals and get hooping! Love jojo xx
